FC SONIC RE-SIGN MIDFIELDER ODENWELDER

Posted On March - 30 - 2012

Back for his third campaign wearing the Carlina blue is two year starting midfielder Dan Odenwelder. Head Coach Dave Weitzman recently announced Dan’s signing and had this to say, ” Dan is somebody that I’m very familiar with as I have had the privilege to coach him at the youth level and with FC SONIC. He comes from a terrific soccer family so in a sense when he’s on the pitch it’s like having a coach out there guiding the team. Danny will bring a lot of passion to each match and will be extremely helpful to younger players both on and off the pitch. I know Dan is a player with tremendous work ethic and wants to help the organization earn some hardware.”

Dan, a local soccer star, played HS soccer for Moravian Academy, played club soccer for ENCO UNTD and PA CLASSICS, and had a stellar career at Lehigh University helping the Mountain Hawks qualify for three straight Patriot League Tournaments.

FC SONIC GM, Matt McTish, has officially announced the signing of veteran left back Jordie Ciuffetelli for the new campaign. Ciuffetelli will lace the boots up for his third season with the SONIC. Jordie has arguably scored two of the three most magical goals in FC SONIC history, both against cross state rival Erie Admirals. His first memorable goal, in 2010, came just minutes before the final whistle as his low driven shot deflected off an Erie defender and found its way to the back of the net and clinched the Keystone Division. Jordie one-upped his performance in 2011, once again against the Admirals, as his 70 yard counterattack minded sprint up the pitch led to a tremendous individual effort and goal giving FC SONIC a 2-1 victory in front of the home crowd.  Ciuffetelli, who had a tremendous playing career at Lehigh University under the direction of Head Coach Dean Koski, will play an integral part in the 2012 FC SONIC squad and will once again be paired up with former Lehigh U. teammate James Graf.

It looks like 2012 could be a promising year for our FC SONIC faithful as Head Coach Dave Weitzman has signed former captain, NPSL All-Star, and former NPSL National Champion (PA Stoners) James Graf. Graf led the Sonic to the Northeast Conference Championship and the NPSL Semi-Finals, in Alabama, in 2010 and was part of the PA Stoners (became FC SONIC in 2010) team that won the 2008 NPSL Cup. Graf is a well-known name throughout the Lehigh Valley as he was a three-time All-Patriot league selection and also earned first team All-Region honors at Lehigh University. Coach Weitzman had this to say about this most recent signing, “I’m delighted to have James back in the mix. James brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and an unbelievable will to win to this year’s team.”

FC SONIC will start the season on May 15th in the first round of the prestigious US OPEN CUP. Sonic’s first Keystone Conference match is slated for May 18th versus Philadelphia Lone Star at Lehigh University’s Ulrich Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7pm.
