FC SONIC AWAIT THEIR PLAYOFF OPPONENT

FC SONIC will begin preparations this week for their 2012 NPSL Conference Semi-Final Playoff match. Coach Weitzman and the boys are still waiting to find out who their opponent will be. FC SONIC (10-1-1) secured the #1 seed in the Keystone Division and the Northeast Conference and will likely host the #2 seed from the Northeast Conference Atlantic Division.

The Brooklyn Italians have secured a playoff spot but are only one point in front of the NY Red Bulls. The Red Bulls host NYAC (nine points behind NYRB with three games remaining) this Wednesday evening. If the NYRB win on Wednesday then FC SONIC will host Brooklyn. If NYRB tie NYAC then FC SONIC’s opponent would be either Brooklyn or NYRB pending tie-breaker rules. If NYRB lose to NYAC then Brooklyn are guaranteed the #1 seed in the Atlantic and NYAC must win their final two games to tie NYRB - then tie-breaker rules will decide the #2 seed in the Atlantic Division.

Let the FUN begin……. LET’s GO SONIC!!!!!

FRASER NAMED NPSL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

FC Sonic forward Leslie Fraser has been selected as the National Premier Soccer League Player of the Week for the week ending July 8.

Fraser came off the bench in the 31st minute of Saturday’s match against the AC Crusaders. Less than a minute later, he won a 50-50 ball and found Joe Sales wide open in front of the goal and ready to give FC Sonic a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, Fraser was on the receiving end of a pass from Sales, then beat two AC defenders and the ‘keeper to make the score 2-0.

FC Sonic went on to a 3-0 win that clinched the top seed in the NPSL Northeast Conference playoffs.

FC SONIC (10-1-1) closed out the regular season with a 1-1 draw against Buxmont Torch on Sunday evening in Bethlehem. Sonic will now wait to see who they will host in the NPSL Northeast Conference Semi-final scheduled for Saturday June 14th, 7pm, in Bethlehem. Hometown native and newly acquired Matt Baker, making his debut, scored his first FC Sonic goal in the 12th minute off a Joe Sales assist. FC Sonic had plenty of other scoring opportunities but failed to cash in on those chances. Buxmont totaled five shots on the evening and just one on goal late in the match, 79th minute, that found the back of the Sonic net earning Buxmont a point on the road. This was just the third goal allowed all season against FC SONIC and the first in the flow of play - the other two goals against Sonic coming off restarts.

Coach Weitzman was pleased with the effort from the boys on the evening and was especially content that they came out of the game relatively healthy as he used all seven substitutes on the evening. “It’s now time to focus on the next phase, stated Weitzman. We accomplished two of our four goals for the season - winning the division and making the playoffs. But now it’s time to start a new season and our quest for a Conference & National Championships. We have some work to do this week in order to get ready for our next opponent and we are focused on our next task. We’ll be ready to go and we hope that our supporters come out to help push us through.” Game Notes: Tom Mustac, James Graf, Cody Antonini, Leslie Fraser, & Dan Odenwelder did not play against Buxmont. Keeper Charlie Sales has only allowed two goals in 963 minutes and has 8.5 shutouts in 12 games. FC SONIC are now 29 wins, 3 ties, and 2 losses in regular season play since 2010. They have 2 wins and 1 loss in the post season, 2010.
