Archive for April, 2010

Immediately following Sunday’s practice session, the FC Sonic coaches and staff, as well as a few FC Sonic supporters who braved the elements. were buzzing with high praises for the 2010 team.

On a cold and rainy Sunday morning, FC Sonic held it’s first official training session at Iron Lakes Sports Dome turf field. Twenty four of the players selected from the open tryouts were put through the paces by Head Coach Dave Weitzman and Assistant Coach Fernando Carrizo. Division I college players are not allowed to participate until early May.

Some of the returning veteran players, Ryan Hess, Jim Feimster, AJ Barnold, Sam Bishop, Dan Scavone, Cody Antonini and Matt Cecconi looked as if they were in mid-season form. Some of the new-comers Carlington Lamont, Ian Clair, Leslie Fraser, Hunter Norton, Charlie Sales, Eric Miller, Ryan Habick, Alex Lacko, Nelson Araya, Ryan Wetherhold, Sky Rimmelee, Marcel Peters, Peter Underwood and Matt Ramspacher wasted no time making a good impression on the coaching staff and their teammates.

Coach Weitzman was very pleased with the effort from the boys but explained that with the pre-season “friendly” and league matches right around the corner there are still some challenges ahead.

“Due to NCAA rules we can’t have access to the college DI players for another week and all of our team’s college student-athletes have finals to prepare for and that is their first priority,” shared Weitzman. “We really won’t have a complete roster for training until approximately May 10th which will pose as a difficult obstacle as we prepare for the season and build a unified team. With seven returning out-of-college players and at least five new out-of-college players we hope to be ready to jump out of the starting gate. I think all the players are aware of how special their opportunity is to play for a professionally run organization and I believe they truly want to make the most of their experience. I can’t say enough about how lucky we are to have such high profile sponsors.”
