Open Tryouts

Posted On February - 20 - 2010

As we get ready for the weather to break I am pleased to announce that we will have OPEN TRYOUTS for FC SONIC on Saturday’s April 3rd and 10th from 9 to 11am at the Iron Lakes Sports Dome in Allentown. The tryout registration form must be completed and returned along with the tryout fee to be considered for the 2010 team.

With several veteran players returning my hope is that we find a few new faces for the 2010 roster. The Lehigh Valley is such a hotbed for soccer especially with all its diversity I have little doubt that we will find a few new players that will contribute significantly to our team.

Call back tryout, late April or early May, dates will be announced.

If you have any questions or concerns with regard to the OPEN TRYOUTS please don’t hesitate to contact Dave Weitzman – Head Coach, FC SONIC at dgw004@aol.com

FC Sonic Carry on Lehigh Valley’s NPSL Campaign

Posted On February - 19 - 2010

ALLENTOWN, PA – (02/19/2010) – Today, team officials announced that the Lehigh Valley will once again be represented in the ranks of U.S. minor league soccer in 2010. Following the successful campaigns by the Pennsylvania Stoners in 2008 and 2009, a new squad will take up the flag of the Lehigh Valley and challenge for the championship of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). The team will be known as F.C. Sonic Lehigh Valley.

“Thanks to the dedication of many people and thanks, primarily, to a new group of enthusiastic sponsors, F.C. Sonic will proudly represent the Lehigh Valley in the highly competitive NPSL,” said Fred Stellato, F.C. Sonic President.

“The Valley’s side will be comprised of premier soccer players, many of whom have names familiar to fans in our area,” shared Dave Weitzman, head coach, F.C. Sonic. “We expect many of last years’ Stoners veterans to return to NPSL competition with the Sonic, along with some exciting new players to be selected from open tryouts.” Weitzman was head coach of the 2009 NPSL Pennsylvania Stoners team.

The Sonic will join NPSL Keystone Conference foes Erie, the 2009 NPSL runner up, as well as Buffalo, Reading, local rival Pocono Snow and two new conference teams, the Central Jersey Blaze and the Maryland Red Devils.

Sonic home matches will be played at Lehigh University’s Ulrich Sports Complex, with the home opener scheduled for the evening of May 16 against Central Jersey. The complete NPSL schedule will be available soon.

The Lehigh Valley team takes its name from title sponsor Sonic, America’s Drive In. Service Electric Cable TV will televise home matches. Other corporate sponsors include Krank’d; PenTeleData; Tallman, Hudders & Sorrentino; Shangy’s of Emmaus; Independence IT; OAA Orthopedic Associates; McTish, Kunkel & Associates; KwikGoal and Stoudt Financial – Accounting & Tax.

The new team evolved through the combined efforts of local soccer leaders, several of whom are associated with F.C. Lehigh, a club affiliate of F.C. Sonic. The Sonic plan to make a run at the NPSL crown while strengthening relationships with youth soccer clubs and pursuing non profit goals to support soccer in every corner of the Lehigh Valley, Stellato said. At the same time, the Sonic hope to help the area’s top players to continue their development and advance their careers in soccer.
